Your Crazy is Someone Else’s Dream Come True

It’s 7:06 AM… on a Saturday. Oh, how you longed to sleep past eight today. Just one time. It’s the weekend after all. But, the kids had other plans. One by one, they march in demanding pancakes and Paw Patrol. It’s crazy how these kids can spring out of bed with so much energy.

Ten months postpartum, and the baby belly still hasn’t gone away. Your pre-pregnancy jeans are still fitting a little tight, and you realize you may never wear a bikini again. It’s crazy how that baby fat hangs on for dear life.

You don’t even want to open the door to the laundry room. What awaits you is a monstrous pile of dirty laundry behind those double doors. The stack is so high that you might have to get a ladder to reach the top. These babies produce so much laundry. Between the onesies and bibs and blankies and footed pajamas and soiled sheets, it’s never-ending. It’s crazy that one tiny human can cause so much dirty laundry.

You are on day 10 of unshaven legs, day 3 of unwashed hair, and you are wearing the same leggings you wore the day before. Mom life ain’t for the glam. It’s crazy how before kids, you swore you’d never leave the house looking like this.

You are delirious. You haven’t slept in days. How does this child need to eat so many times? Is 12:57 am really an opportune time for a three-course meal? And, then again at 2:42 and 4:35 and 6:04? I might as well get up now. It’s crazy that you can even function on such little sleep.

Remember the Pinterest boards you created of what your dream home would look like? Might as well throw those pics in the delete folder. Your home is not the pristine, uncluttered, fully decorated vision that you once had in mind. Instead, it is full of crumbs, Crayola marks on the wall, and there’s always something sticky on the floor. It is fully decorated, though. Decorated with children’s artwork and cluttered with legos, hot wheels, and Barbie accessories as far as the eye can see. It’s crazy how much of a mess these kids can make.

It’s New Year’s Eve, and you have some serious FOMO from scrolling through your news feed. Friends ringing in the new year, drinks in hand, and dressed to the nines. You are dressed in leggings and a spit-up stained shirt. You will be lucky if you can stay up until the nines. It’s crazy how you once were the life of the party, and these days a New Years’ party would take the life right out of you.

The pregnancy test is positive. You have taken like twenty-five of them. And, they all say that you are 100% positively pregnant. You are excited yet scared all at the same time. It’s crazy how you weren’t even trying.

One in eight couples experiences infertility in the United States. This means that one out of eight couples cannot become pregnant after a year or more of trying. That’s about 6.7 million people each year who have trouble conceiving. That’s about 6.7 million people who would give anything to have “your crazy.” Be thankful for “your crazy.”
